About Us

Desert Pulmonary Consultants (DPC) of Gilbert, Arizona have been serving the East Valley communities for over 20 years with high quality clinical care including diagnostic testing and treatments for both lung disease and sleep disorders with one goal in mind – to improve the health and quality of life for their patients.

The physicians at DPC are all board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases. They are all Fellows of the American College of Chest Physicians. Some members of the group have additional board certifications in Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine. They are all active members of the medical staffs at Banner Desert Medical Center, Banner Baywood Medical Center and Banner Baywood Heart Hospital.

Paul Barnard, M.D.
Specialty - Chest Diseases and Sleep Disorders

Dr. Barnard completed medical school at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary fellowship at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Since 1987, Dr. Barnard has been practicing both pulmonary and sleep medicine in the East Valley, where he is the founding and current Medical Director of the Banner Desert Sleep Disorders Center. He is currently the chairman of the Critical Care Service Committee at Banner Desert Medical Center and serves as a member of the Executive Committee. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and sleep medicine. His practice is predominately focused on sleep disorders.

Dr. Slobig completed his medical education at the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his internal medicine residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He then completed a fellowship in pulmonary disease at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center. He has been practicing pulmonary medicine in the East Valley since 1990. He is the Medical Director of Respiratory Care at Banner Desert Medical Center and serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Medical Staff at that facility. He has achieved board certification in internal medicine and pulmonary disease. Dr. Slobig focuses primarily on pulmonary disease.

Harmeet Gill, M.D.

Dr. Gill completed medical school at Dayanand Medical College in India. He then completed his internal medicine residency at Grant Hospital of Chicago (Rush University) in Chicago, Illinois followed by a dual fellowship in pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center (Tufts University School of Medicine) in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Gill joined Desert Pulmonary Consultants in 1997 and practices both pulmonary and sleep medicine. He is the Medical Director of the Banner Baywood Sleep Center and the Chairman of the Respiratory Care Committee at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.  He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine and sleep medicine. Dr. Gill sees both pulmonary and sleep disorder patients.

Amy Bohan, M.D.
Specialty - Chest Diseases

Dr. Bohan completed medical school at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona and completed both her internal medicine residency and fellowship in pulmonary disease at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She joined Desert Pulmonary Consultants in 2000. She is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease. Her practice focuses on treatment of pulmonary disease.

Wahaj Ahmed, M.D.
Specialty - Chest Diseases

Dr. Ahmed completed medical school at Gandhi Medical College at Osmania University in India. His residency was completed in Newark, New Jersey in a rotating appointment that included University Hospital, Beth Israel Medical Center, Veterans Administration Medical Center and Hackensack Medical Center. Dr. Ahmed then completed a fellowship specializing in pulmonary medicine at Brookdale University Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and a fellowship specializing in critical care medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He joined Desert Pulmonary Consultants in 2002. Dr. Ahmed is currently serving as Chairman of Medicine at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona, and is an adjunct professor of medicine at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine and sleep medicine. His practice encompasses all aspects of diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary and sleep disorders. In addition, he is the Medical Director of Valley Oximetry Sleep Disorders Center in Mesa.
